Headley Brothers Ltd is an independent printer producing a wide variety of magazines, journals, annual reports and colour prints using sheet-fed, heat-set web and digital presses. The company employs around 280 people and was established in Ashford, Kent in 1881. It is still owned and run by descendants of the same family.

Occupying a 15 acre site bordering the River Stour, with a sports ground, extensive gardens, specimen trees and with residential properties close by, the company have for many years been aware of its environmental responsibilities as a result of its sensitive location.

With this in mind, Headley Brothers Ltd gained the international standard ISO 14001 in August 2005. The company feels that environmental management is a positive response to the growing pressure on organisations to prove their 'green credentials' and demonstrates the company’s commitment to the environment, to customers, potential customers and to the local community

To further widen the range of options available to customers requesting green print Headley Brothers Ltd. have achieved both FSC and PEFC’ Chain of Custody’ certifications.

FSC is the Forest Stewardship Council’s prestigious ‘Chain of Custody’ certification which promotes responsible forestry and implements a system that traces products back to their forest of origin. Certified companies are required to monitor supply chain conditions and integrate review procedures into their production operations.

PEFC is the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification ‘Chain of Custody certification, launched in June 1999; they certify timber and paper products to ensure they derive from responsibly managed forests, aiming to achieve compatibility between international forest certification schemes.

This means that in practice, a product that bares either a FSC or PEFC certification logo can be tracked through every link in the chain, so that the end-consumer can be guaranteed that the fibre originated from a forest managed according to the forest management standards.

These certifications allow Headleys to use the internationally-recognised FSC and PEFC logo’s on products printed on FSC and PEFC certified papers.
