Dimensional printing can dramatically increase response rates to direct mail. It is used to mimic a specific texture, making an amazing difference to the look and feel of any printed product. Wood grain can be made to look and feel like wood grain, or an orange peel like orange peel: borders can be raised to powerfully frame a piece, or images given a tactile and visually arresting effect that will grab the recipient’s attention and considerably improve response rates.

How It Works

Dimensional Coating takes place inline, maintaining press productivity while creating high-impact results that grab a reader's attention.

Printing with Dimensional Coating starts by loading Kodak NexPress Dimensional Clear Dry Ink into the Fifth Imaging Unit of the NexPress. Dimensional Clear Dry Ink is a new dry ink that creates a clear ‘raised’ layer on top of a page element after fusing. It can be used to enhance graphics, text, or a full color image.

The overall tactile effect is similar to thermography, but with a greater degree of control – Dimensional Coating can be set to produce variable heights to more closely mimic the texture of a specific image. Unlike thermography, which can only be applied to ink and not to a full-page surface, an entire page can be layered with dimensional ink, to allow for a textured effect on the page such as canvas or linen.
